PicklyScan better. Choose smarter.
A calm grocery scanner: point it at a barcode and get a plain verdict, the reasons behind it, and a better pick for the same shelf — tuned to what matters to you.

The problem
Labels are loud. Pickly makes them calm.
A supermarket shelf is a wall of claims: "natural", "high protein", "light". The real answer hides in a tiny nutrition table, and health advice online is louder than it is useful. Most people give up and grab the usual.
Pickly asks a calmer question — is this a good fit for me? — and answers it in seconds. I designed and built it end to end: product strategy, the scoring language, the native SwiftUI app, onboarding, Pickly Plus and the App Store story.
How it works
Open. Scan. Choose.

Home
Your goals, recent scans and top picks wait on the first screen — search a product or tap Scan right from here.

Scan
Point the camera at a barcode — or search by name. Pickly reads the product before you've finished reaching for it.

Verdict
One plain answer first: Great, Good, Okay or Not great, with a 0–100 score and how confident it is.

Why
Sugar, salt, protein and ingredients, explained in human words — with the data source and its limits in sight.

Better pick
Not the right fit? Better Choices puts a higher-scoring product for the same shelf one tap away.

The verdict
One score. Four honest words.
Every product resolves into a 0–100 score and a verdict you can read across an aisle. The bands are fixed and public, so "Good" always means the same thing — and limited data is labelled, never guessed.

Made for you
Healthy for whom?
Pickly doesn't prescribe one definition of healthy. Pick what matters — less sugar, less salt, gentler on digestion, plant-based — and search, picks and alternatives quietly follow along.

Better Choices
Don't just judge. Suggest.
A verdict without a next step is just a warning. Better Choices turns "Not great" into a concrete swap from the same shelf, ranked by score and by your goals.

Light & dark
Bright aisle. Late kitchen.
Pickly follows the system appearance with two hand-tuned themes. Scores, verdict colours and hierarchy stay legible in both — the lime softens to olive in daylight, so nothing glares under supermarket lights. Drag the handle.

First run
Show the value. Then ask.
The first screen is the product itself — a live scan carousel — before any question. Then a real result, explained; then your goals; and an account only if you want one.

Design language
Fresh, not alarming.
A produce-aisle palette — lime, aqua, lemon — on calm neutrals. Red is reserved for one verdict only. A custom filled icon set replaces generic symbols so every screen feels like the same shop.

App Store
Six frames. One aisle.
A continuous produce panorama, a real hand holding the scan, and one promise per frame — written for people skimming at the speed of a thumb.

Principles
A clarity app, not a panic app.
Calm by default
No red screens, no shaming copy. Pickly informs; the shopper decides.
Honest confidence
Every score shows how sure it is. Thin data is labelled, never dressed up.
Sources in sight
Open Food Facts data, with the record date and a link — and a note that packages change.
Not medical advice
Helpful everyday guidance with clear limits — never a diagnosis.
